Headless Shopware platform as the next step in a long-term partnership

Sissy-Boy

Sissy-Boy is a well-known fashion and lifestyle brand with 48 stores and a distinctive, colourful assortment ranging from fashion to furniture and home accessories. As part of the Termeer Group, Sissy-Boy is taking the next step towards a headless Shopware 6 platform. In doing so, the brand follows the path previously taken by Sacha and Manfield, two other Termeer brands that successfully made the same transition.

Since 2015, Termeer Group and XSARUS have worked together closely as strategic partners for PIM, e-commerce and OMS. Over the years, the teams have built a strong collaboration with short communication lines and fast decision-making. This project was no exception.

Headless architecture with Shopware & Prismic

Sissy-Boy’s existing custom-built e-commerce platform had reached the end of its lifecycle. The brand therefore moved towards a future-proof IT architecture based on the same technical foundation as Sacha and Manfield. Although the webshop shares the same underlying structure, the user interface and look-and-feel are fully tailored to the Sissy-Boy brand.

The new headless setup combines Shopware 6 as the commerce engine with Prismic as the content management system. This architecture makes it easier to integrate new technologies, while the separation of data and functionality improves both stability and security.

Thanks to the headless architecture, we now have far more possibilities when it comes to content and brand experience on the webshop. It also gives us more flexibility to make changes ourselves, without relying heavily on custom development.

More room for brand experience and inspiration

With Prismic, Sissy-Boy gained more freedom in content creation. The content team can easily add inspiring content such as blogs, videos and photography through flexible content blocks. As a result, the online experience now aligns seamlessly with the unique “Sissy-Boy feeling”.

Advanced sofa configurator

One of the more complex product categories within the assortment is modular sofas. This product type requires a different approach compared to standard e-commerce. XSARUS developed an advanced configurator that allows visitors to build their ideal sofa with different layouts, fabrics and colours. The entire process takes place on a single PDP, without navigating between separate or related products.

Role of Inriver PIM
Behind the scenes, Inriver makes it possible to manage configurable products and efficiently handle all variants, dependencies and business rules. This enables Sissy-Boy to maintain structured product data and publish it directly to the webshop.

Smart differentiation in shipping costs

Sissy-Boy’s assortment ranges from fashion items to furniture and home accessories. Naturally, a side table requires a different shipping setup than a piece of clothing. Within Shopware, shipping costs are therefore intelligently configured based on the type and size of products, ensuring customers always see the correct shipping costs automatically.

We learned a lot from earlier projects with Sacha and Manfield, and we noticed that immediately during this project. The implementation went smoothly and even the debugging phase passed without any major surprises.

An IT landscape built around specialised tools

In addition to rebuilding the e-commerce platform, Shopware is integrated with systems such as TableTop, Deployteq and Spotler Activate. Sissy-Boy also uses several XSARUS Enablers:

  • XCDN Dynamic Media Service: XCDN centralises, transforms and distributes all videos and images across channels and devices. Based on a single source file, media assets automatically scale for different formats and platforms.
  • XSARUS Merchandiser: The Merchandiser gives Sissy-Boy full control over product ranking on category pages. The brand can optimise product visibility based on data-driven criteria such as margin, stock levels, seasonality and return rates. Based on this input, the Merchandiser automatically generates the optimal product ranking.

Maximising the value of TableTop OMS

TableTop OMS has been a central part of the Sissy-Boy IT landscape for years. With the new platform, its functionality is utilised even more effectively.

  • Smart gift card module
Sissy-Boy supports both physical and digital gift cards, including combinations with regular products in a single order. TableTop automatically recognises the gift card type and triggers the correct workflows behind the scenes. Returns are also handled intelligently. When a customer returns a product purchased with a gift card, the amount is first refunded back to the original gift card. Any remaining amount is refunded through the original payment method, ensuring the gift card remains immediately reusable.
  • Accurate delivery promises
By taking factors such as delivery routes, cut-off times and public holidays into account, customers receive realistic delivery promises that are almost always met in practice.
  • Marketplaces separated from Shopware
Marketplace order flows are fully managed through TableTop, keeping marketplace data outside the Shopware platform. This creates a clear separation between channels and gives Sissy-Boy more control over which product groups are offered through marketplaces.
Sometimes a small frontend adjustment seems simple from our perspective, while technically there is much more involved. By working together with XSARUS on-site every week, we gained more understanding of each other’s challenges and were able to move quickly. That has made our collaboration even stronger.

Future-proof platform and trusted partnership

Sissy-Boy now operates on a future-proof and stable IT landscape in which every system is used for its specific strength. XSARUS continues to actively contribute to strategic decisions across the IT landscape, ensuring technology not only supports current operations, but also future ambitions such as the growth of Sissy-Boy Homeland and further international expansion.
